About Kate

As a child I would sit and watch my mum, a school secretary, typing, my eyes open wide with fascination.

Words seemed to be the fabric that made up the world, whether in lists of names on the class register, in the columns of clues for my Grandma’s crosswords or in the wobbly letters of my name proudly written in the front of my books.

As I grew up, I soon learned that words are not just around us, they are in us - and they have the power to change us. As a youth worker, words gave me the power to console a child in foster care, to invite teens off the streets and to build self-esteem. In public service, they have helped me support the leaders of big organisations to show their staff that they care, to deliver bad news sensitively and to celebrate good news with authenticity.

Closer to home they have helped me escape trauma, make myself heard, maintain long-distance friendships, earn a living, celebrate my identity, navigate new motherhood, and much more.

My love for words is backed up by my training:

  • Qualified to post-graduate level in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes (currently diploma, working towards MSc)

  • Introduction to Counselling Skills

  • CIPR Strategic Internal Communication

  • MA English Literature with Merit

  • 1st class BA (Hons.) English Literature

In reality, though, it’s not what we’ve got but what we do with it that counts - if you want to find out how I can help you find strength and practice self-care through writing, read more about working with me.
